Might look at just using 6l80 and use a different pan, one form a holden, CTS-V or G8 Pontiac. It should handle you motor listed.

With either you would have to mod the trans tunnel I bet.

You should be fine with the 3.07 and the smaller tires (vs a trucks) and it will pull hard like it had 3.73 or 4.10's! I have test driven a 6speed truck and its nasty in first with 3.42's!

Good read on the 6l80/90

Another thing is it can be shifted manually with a tap shifter out of a G8 or CTS-V
Cool. I read somewhere about the different pans, but didn't notice that it applied to the 6L80. I will probably be doing some more work to the motor after I get it. Not near as impressive as the 502, but.... I can get the 6L90 for the same price as the 6L80, so I figure I'll go for the monster.. Still need to do some studying before I finally decide, but the 6L80 may be adequate.

I'll mount the motor a bit higher so I can get more clearance for the pan ( motor and trans).

3.42 !!! I wouldn't be able to not spin the wheels... The .667 final overdrive gear will be excellent for Power Touring!!

I read that thread before, I was hoping to get the 6L90E trans that RileyrideZ had for sale for $1500.

That's the problem with the truck guys, they are all use to the 4l60 and swapping to 4.10's. Now with the speed if you have anything more than 3.42 1st gear will be useless!

You won't brake the 6l90, good choice!

I am jealous! Haha

It doesn't look as large as the factory 6 spd and it is rated to 850HP. Check their web site www.tciauto.com, they have the package priced at $6064.35 with paddle shifters, transmission control unit, cooler, and harness. Very interesting

Chuck
Its a 4l80 that they turned into a 6 speed. That's not really worth it for those gears ratios. The 700r is better than that.
TCI 6sp 2.97, 2.31, 1.57, 1.18, 1.00, 0.75

But for $6k dang! The 6l80/90 new are around $2k. And figure another $1k for any special shifter, mounts, etc...

6L80E Stock:
Maximum engine torque: 439 lb-ft
Maximum gearbox torque: 664 lb-ft
6L90E
Max Eng Tq = 531 ft lbs,
Max Eng Pwr = 452 hp,
Max Gearbox Tq = 885 ft lbs

The 6L80-E is a clutch-to-clutch transmission. That means that the gear it's in, no matter what, will feel like engine braking if you lift the throttle quickly because there are no freewheeling mechanisms. Despite having 2 more gears, the 6L80-E is more mechanically simple than the 4L80-E.
If you have ever driven a 5 or 6 speed Allison 1000 you know how shifty those are under certain driving conditions. The Allison is clutch-to-clutch also. The 6L80-E takes some getting used to just as the Allison does.

I found that the dealer will sell remanufactured 6L90E for $2300. Have you found them somewhere else for less? I want to get the best price I can..

Nothing at this point. Still doin research. I'm thinking that the new Cadillac CTS-V is my best option. At some point I'm going to see if I can get a hold of a schematic for it. I'm a long ways off from being able to drive the car anyway; although I'm starting to put the chassis back together. I'll be buying my fuel tank soon. I'll be posting some new pictures soon showing my chassis at it's current stage. Started bolting the suspension back on after painting the frame.

As a last resort John Spear's harness will work, but he wants $1600. It's just a matter of time and someone will offer a cheaper solution to get this retrofit option to work. There certainly is a LOT of interest in getting the 6L90 into older cars. If I'm not able to get it to work by the time I'm ready to transfer the body over to my new chassis, I'll look into a 4A to put behind it temporarily.

PS. I've got the motor and tranny already. Picked up the 6L90 from a salvage yard with 1300 miles ($1800). Have my LS376/480.

That's weird on the price.

So LS3 and 6l90. What controller for the motor do you have E38 or E67? With out looking a a wiring print. You could just mod a truck harness to work with the LS3 and 6l90.

I would contact Jim's performance as well about the harness and tunning. I stand behind his work and advice! http://www.jimsperformance.com/

I am not 100% on the Gen IV stuff but they have seperate TCM for the transmissions now. You could wire it for a 4l80 and pick up a TCM for it out of a 07 up truck.

Times are sure changing on tranmissions. That 6 spd auto sure sounds like one to consider. Besides being fun to drive, the overdrive is a big plus. I have a lot of reading to do on this "newfangled stuff".:stoned:
