I read the pay it forward rules and personally I think this could be expanded somehow to include parts that a member wanted.

For example....I just posted a want ad in the classifieds for a piece of a body part I need. It's unlikely that I will get a reply, but figured that's the "right" way to ask for parts. Seems like we used to be allowed to ask for parts and sell them in the forums some time ago, but maybe that's changed.

Anyhow, the piece I need is unlikely to ever be offered by a member, and it probably has no real value to anyone else. But I have a lot of parts that I would "pay foward" if I could somehow get the part I need. It wouldn't be a trade, but if someone gave me the part I needed, I would offer something that someone else could use.

I have given lots of parts away in the past for the cost of shipping, and I have no problem doing that more.

How could we make this work and not violate the intent of the "pay it forward" theme?

I think if your looking for a specific part that would come under trading. The pay it forward idea is to give away on old part you don't need to the first person who wants it. I know what your trying to say, but I don't think it would work on pay it forward.

What's the difference if I ask for it or if they read my mind. LOL!!

I figure I'm not "trading" if I don't give another part back to the same person who gave me the part I need. Oh well, check the classifieds.

I understand what you are saying about searching for parts. Placing wanted ads doesn't seem to bring results because of the lack of traffic. Usually when I am in the classifieds there may be 1 to 2 people in there. I've had a wanted ad for stainless pieces for a while with no replys. The wanted section has alot of ads but it just doesn't get the traffic flow. I usually mention the parts I am looking for in a post I make about information on the part. Maybe Otis can think of something.

What about one thread for both. Post what you are giving away and post items you are looking for. Could be tough following the thread due the amount of pages, but if the posters would edit and delete their post after they give/get the part it would help a lot. My .02

The wanted parts or parts to trade was discussed a week or so back and Otis made the decision to put them in the classifieds.

The problem with the "wanted" in classifieds is this.... How many people are going to go to the classifieds sections to browse what other people are in need of? Not high on the priority list for most poeple. I'm a fan of bartering out parts AND pay it forward. I have lots of parts that I would love to barter out.
Admins have said wanted, trade, and for sale are in classifieds only - - free parts only in the pay it forward section. Maybe we can have a thread for parts trade?
