Hello I'm new here and have a couple of questions. I am begining a total resto on a 55 Nomad. My question is the VIN number ends in 100650, does that mean it was the 650th car built? I would think that would be pretty early production. Also the engine has a 56 block according to the casting number. I can't find any numbers stamped in front of the pass head. How would I tell if this had been a block that was installed by warranty in 56? Sorry if this is a dumb question. By the way it was a Kansas City built car.
thanks Last edited by apound; 08-01-2009 at 08:29 AM.. |

Welcome to TRI-FIVE!!!
Each plant started with number 001001 in '55, so yours would be much later in the production year. Here is a link to Vin and cowl tag information...http://www.trifive.com/specs/19.%20Original%20Specs.pdf Check out the Library section of Tri-Five for production numbers and other good stuff.

A warranty replacement would have had a '55 casting number, with the casting date possibly being later. So this is not a warranty install. A '56 block without a pad stamping has some value to some '56 folks like me. So consider putting it on eBay with that fact if you decide to replace it. Tracey Performance has a stock of '55 blocks if you are looking for a particular casting date and aren't willing to wait a year or two for a good casting date to come up on eBay or Craigslist.
