I jacked up my frame and body to clean the undercarriage. I now have decided to remove the frame from the body so I can change the body mounts and do a better job cleaning the frame and undercarriage. I have read the threads on different techniques to remove the body from the frame.
My question is can I do this with the doors, windows, trunk and interior still on the body or will I have issues? For example, will the body give enough that I could crack my windshield or back glass? Can I lift the front using the strap around the cowl sheet metal or will the extra weight from the doors and windows be too much? My complete interior is also still in place. Engine, trans, front fenders, hood, and everything in front of the firewall has been removed. I do have my a-arms and front suspension back on the frame so my frame will roll once I separate it from the body. I have a 2 ton engine hoist for the front and can put blocks under the rear body while lowering the frame using floor jacks. Thanks Todd |

I have picked up bodys off the frame like you describe, I don't see why you can't. I used a singletree off a wagon hooked to the picker with two chains down to the firewall frame mounts. You could also attach it at the hood hinge points. If you have floor issues i might say its even better to have the doors on so it keeps things square.

This is how I did my hard top. From the bottom.and rolled the chassis in under it.I lifted my 150 from the garage roof with a come alongin front and some rachet binders in the back.but the glass and doors and seats were removed. It is hard to just go half way with these cars when you pull them apart.

I lifted my body off with the doors and all of the glass in the car. I did remove the seats both front and back. The engine was out and the doghouse was removed too. I didn't have any problems. I used bottle jacks, sicissor jacks and a floor jack, and jack stands to lift it up. I also used the engine hoist tied to the front body mounts on the firewall for stabilization. I took my time and sloooowwwwly raised the body off. Be very careful and you should be okay. AN extra set of eyes is helpful.

Just pay attention there how many, and where your body shims are. Failure to do so, will cause door alignment problems going back together.
