I currently have the automatic shifter collar on my steering column.
I purchased the smooth collar from Danchuk (putting a 5 speed) and curious how to go about removing old and installing new. I've a '55 manual and it shows the schematic but would like to hear from someone who has done already done the deed. Anything I should do or look for. Thanks |

Remove the wheel, remove the shift lever, remove the turn signal switch, remove the screws holding the turn signal housing on, lift off this housing, twist and remove the ring that the turn signal assembly screws go into, take off shift cup, reverse to re-assemble.
You will probably have to remove the small piece on the column, where the wires come out. |

Greg
Are there any wires that come off with the turn signal column piece or do they stay put inside? |

Yes, the wires are soldered to the turn signal switch and will have to be pulled up through the column. .....Link to "upper steering column rebuild".....http://www.classicchevy.com/assets/pdf/22-09.pdf?

Great info and pics Hoping I can pull the signal collar just enough to the side to change out other collar........without having to fish the wires through column again. |
