I don't know if the General ever did it but it would have been posible for a dealer to take a solid black car and two-tone it with yellow in a reverse scheme... My father bought a brand new wagon in 1955 that was solid red and the dealer (at my mothers request) painted part of it white to in fact make it a two-tone... It was at the end of the model year and you could no longer order 55's as the factory was already building 56's... My 56 Belair had a reverse paint scheme from a PO {Twilight Turquoise/India Ivory) and I liked it so well that when I had the body work done I kept it but used Bright Metallic Aqua/White Diamond GM paint... Click onto belairdave's garage and check it out... My Nephew has a 56 convertable the same combo as yours... Later, Dave

the reason i asked is i saw a light blue and white belair which is not my favorite colors, but saw one in a reverse scheme and it really looked good..owner said that was the way car was built, that anyone could special order reverse colors...i've just never seen a reverse scheme in yellow and black

56Cheby....Referring to Danchuk's Original Spec Sheet here at the site....In 1956 a crocus yellow over onyx black two tone paint scheme (#696) was available on all three models. http://www.trifive.com/specs/19.%20Original%20Specs.pdf

696 150, 210 Series Crocus Yel. (upper) 25358763 Onyx Black (lower) 2532247 Crocus Yel. 725 Onyx Black 2532247

696 Bel Air Series Crocus Yel. (upper) 25358763 Onyx Black (lower) 2532247 Crocus Yel. 725 None

However, I looked at two other sources and found this info to be wrong....I should be just the opposite IRT the upper/lower body colors.

There was a crocus yellow over laurel green color combo availabe that year....But I don't see it listed on Danchuk's chart...Here is a website I found with the correct info: http://www.56classicchevy.com/body-colors.html

I would like to see a 55 belair painted like yours or the yellow being harvest gold and the top and rear quarter tops being a charcoal or black.
I would really like to see it as I have kind of thought about it on mine as it came out harvest gold and india ivory but if I went back with the harvest gold (yellow) I would want to change the india ivory.
That scheme looks good on a 56 (belair) because the black comes up the sides in the center of the trim, balancing it out good, but Im not sure what it would look like on a 55 belair, maybe the front fender spears on the 55 would help balance it out???
anyone got pics of one like that?
