I have the stock 235 with fenton headers and dual carbs - it's not a powerhouse, but it's still fun and sounds good. if you're looking for big HP gains, I don't think there's much that can be done.... There's no replacement for displacement, and a 235 ain't a lot of displacement.

You can get a GMC block that is 261 cu inch Looks just like a 235. I don't recall what years they were. With a milled head (standard 6's are very low compression) a 2bbl carb and split manifold they can go pretty impressive.

Check out Langdon's Stovebolt and Clifford Performance. Not cheap to get more out of a six, but it sure is different than a common 350. But again, not going to match performance without alot of money.

I still have a 6 in both my 55 Belair and my 59 Apache. Both are bone stock.
Im just happy to keep them running. Ever go in to a parts store and ask for anything that old? Most of those guys can't find it in their puters, which means they can't find it at all...........Dwight

Depends on your budget. The 235 can take a .080 overbore. The 858 head is better than the earlier head,s. You can port polis and CC the head. There are special high lift intake rocker arms available .Back in the day lots of vintage intake and exhaust speed equipt was made. Kinda pricy when you find it.For just a little cash you could split the original exhaust manifold and use a adapter to mount a 2bbl carb. I reciently bought a crome valve cover and side cover for $65.oo on ebay. A 261 engine will swap. They can be identifyed by the two captians bars cast in the block right above the starter.
