Default The 57 4 door is at its new Home.

First off , Thanks everyone for being the driving force behind my decision to buy it . I knew it was worth it in the back of my head but needed that confidence to pull the trigger, a thousand dollars is tough to come by these days.

Anyways , Left town thismorning at 8 oclock with trailer in tow. Got over there and the owner told me she hadnt run in a while and i said that id just winch it up so i didnt suck any rust up into the carb from the tank . He then told me to not worry about that because he put a fresh tank on it last spring!!!!!!!! so i dropped the battery in , primed the carb with my soda bottle full of gas and she spun over about 6 times and lit up! And then sat there and idled. She is equipped with that high flow swiss cheese exhaust that so many of them have ha ha . Pulled her down in gear and tlet the glide spin for a little bit and drove the ole girl right up on the trailer. What a differnce 8 caurters and a car wash can make , blew all the tree sap and mold off and the old car is really straight , got alot of clean up to do and checking things out , the trunk floor is in great shape , the floor pans are going to need a couple replacement pan pieces and a couple braces but over all the car is solid , and the power brakes still work fine!! I was tickled , handed over the thousand dollars and he handed me my clean title and we were off

Here is the real kicker to this story. Years ago , i was 6 years old , i went to a junk yard in southern illinois with my dad and uncle to get an ashtray for a 442 cutlass. Ill never forget standing in the parking lot watching a 57 chevy convertible get drug by a bulldozer out of the timber where they had all the junk cars. It just burned into my brain that day and ive always told that story when talking to fellow car guys.

Well we were talking and he said " open the garage door and ill show you my hardtop and my convertible! We slid the doors open and there is his hardtop on a rotissierie and a 57 vert sitting there ready to be assembled and painted. He started telling me where he got it and i said " wait a minute , it was about 1986 and it was pulled out witha bulldozer wasnt it " he got a confused look on his face and said " sure was , down at stutsmans " and then i told him " sir , i was only about 3 feet tall but i was standing in the parking lot when they drug her to your trailer . It was the icing on the cake to me , that car had burned itself into my memory and there i was , rubbing the quarter panel on it 24 years later. The ole boy cant do much but he sure wants to get one of them on the road , so me and my brother signed on to give him a hand with them welding in patches and what not to help get the ole boy on the road agin in his 57's.

So here are some pictures of my new treasure and a burried treasure, and a real tressure of a man. Thats him standing at the back of the trailer.

Nice BelAir Mac!
Sounds like a pretty decent guy too.
i wonder if he would trade that convertible for something else?
I'd love to have it as it is!
Mike.
