Alright all you guys with shops. I am in the process of wiring my shop. I have put in plenty receptacles and and circuits for my welding machine and air compressor lights, parts washer and blast cabinet and on and on... Is there any thing special that you wish you would have added after the fact of building your shop??? let me know if I missed something I haven't put insulation and wall covering up yet...
Thanks in advance, Jimbo |

Wish I would have thought about WHERE I was going to be doing WHAT before I wired it. I've got plenty of 110v outlets but the extra 220 would have been a nice touch. I also have a small 220v oven for powder-coating so I have to "share" outlets when I use those items. You may want to give it some thought along with where your air lines will be used. I added a pull-down air reel right in the center of my ceiling along with my bench lines--reaches everywhere I need air. Good Luck, JIM.

As an electrician,I'd say to make sure your panel is big enough and/or has enough space for future circuits.
Then you may need a phone line and cable(for computor, etc.) Next suggestion is PLENTY of lighting outlets.A 48",2,40 watt fluorescent fixture in every 8'x 8' section is a good start.White ceiling and walls help tremendously with lighting! You said you have plenty of receptacles, but you're wrong! You never have enough! My shop is 50'x75'x11' high and I'm still adding electrical outlets!Shops 15 years old.Just added a power source for my R.V. and a 220 outlet for a tire balancer I found. Don't forget outside lighting and receptacles. Mike. ![]()

Mike just brought up one of the ones I wish I had more of, Outside Power, for misc electrical and plasma cutter. Pictures of your project would be real nice.

a door bell from the main house to the shop. cable for the internet, phone line, i've got 6 8' t8 fixtures in 600 sq ft and that is working out well, an intercome from the house to the shop, stubout for water and sewer for future...... 220v recepticals at 4 corners of the shop, and a place to sit down and take a break once in a while, (TV, AM/FM), ceiling fans.
