Default 55 Bel-Air V-8 Oil Filter Cannister-Color

I just received my 55 by transport this evening. Will post pictures in a couple of days. Needs a little work, but a good clean-up should add a new life. What color should the oil cannister reservoir be? This 55 was in the same family since new and appears mostly stock.

If installed by the Dealer (most common) it is blue with orange lid, the lettering on the lid is blue. If installed on the assembly line it's all semi-gloss black with white letters. My 55 is also a family heirloom and was semi-gloss black, I restored it that way.

Agreed with Jalapeno. The one I have was a NOS unit for a dealer add-on and was blue/orange. They are a semi-gloss paint and the best match I have found is the Chevy orange and Ford blue, as disgusting as that sounds. When I did mine the first time, I just did the full gloss then used 1000 grit paper and wet sanded it to give it a semi gloss finish.

Besides the AC oil filters, there were aftermarket ones made by Fram and others. I have no idea how the aftermarket ones were painted, but other Fram oil filters are orange.
