Hey, hotrodhenson (love that name!) if you find out, let me know -- I'm sure I'll have to take mine off the frame if for no other reason than to replace the frame.

I am going to pull mine in the next month or so and I am going to use my engine hoist. I bought some Harbor Freight 330 lb swivel casters and I plan on building a body stand while I roll the frame out and strip/paint it. What I will do is use the hoist to lift the front, get the bar across that the body will rest on, and do the same with the rear.

Just a curious, what are you going to do after you remove the body? There are many things to do that it is better to leave the body on the frame while performing them.

A friend told me to use 4x4 posts from Home Depot and bolt them together. First put two front to back and then set the other 2 90 degrees spaced evenly under the cab. I am going to try that with castors. I will let you know how it goes.

I ended up lifting my 57 off the frame with a cherry picker in the front, chain bolted to the front body mount posts. And with an A-frame and chain hoist in the back with a chain bolted through the back 2 body mounts.

Hello
My 9 year old son and I removed the body off my 55 with a motorcycle/ATV Jack. We jacked the rear up enough to get a 4x4 between the frame and body. Then we did the same with the front. After that we put another 4x4 under the ends that were sticking out on the drivers side and jacked that side up until we could get a sawhorse under them. Then we did the same to the other side. After that we rolled the chassie out from under the body. I made a stand for the body using two engine stands and some old receiver hitches. now I can spin the body up to work on the under side. After we were done my son thought it was cool and so did I.

I built a set of gantrys so that I could do it myself. They work great....... I did the cherry picker and saw horse thing the first time and it scared the crap out of me. Decided to make something that would work and be safe.

the fastest and easiest for me was invite over 8 guys to lift it off by hand . There is less chance of mishaps with the glass, hood, trunk lid and doors removed. If your floors are done then most of the extra weight is gone already if they aren't then leave it on the frame. Have saw horses ready to go under it as soon as the frame is pulled . Everyone says they are holding a little over a hundred pounds and takes less than a minute. It cost a few brews but it's well worth it. I rode a few times when hawkeye henson was still winning great guy with most spectacular dismounts.
