Hey all, As you know, the weirdest things happen to me out here in Deliverance-ville. Today is one i must share with you all. I had ATT run a phone line from my old house 150' from me, to the house i'm in now. I got 1 week out of it, not knowing it was a fair weather line they had installed. It rained today and i woke to no phone service, and after calling the tech personally, was left in the dark, no call back and a no show after he did agree to get over here today. I jumped the gun this afternoon and 5 minutes on the cell phone with a really nice rep in billing, we worked out this wonderful plan. Pay your bill in january, june and july, basic service for $22 per month, 3 times per year. The other 9 months, the line is under repair and the bill is waived...as in bye, bye. I get tired of shoddy service these days and it feels good to get a little back, ya know. Now this is not a plan the public can just order up. You need to live in "Green acres" and have a great rep to answer when you call, and if you have the gift of gab, as i do, and a really good listener on the ATT side, then you get "the plan". So my phone line will come and go with the weather...but the price is right for a change.

Its great to have a company give back to the customer BUT I thought the whole purpose of a phone line was that it operates all the time, not just sometimes especially when you need it which usually turns out to be in an emergency

I agree why have a land line that operates in good weather only?
To me, there's only 2 reasons to have a land line any more. It works when the power is off, or maybe you can get a good deal on DSL and that requires you to have a land line. Or are you on the hook for X months of service after having the line run? |

I sure wish i could get another tech out here but he's the only one, yep, the one person in a 50 mile radius around here that tends to all repairs, hook-ups and what not. The great part of all this is that i really just needed that high dollar commercial grade line, they installed it at no charge, the 200'+ of line he left behind, that i have now run the proper way and have phone service that won't let me down...just let them keep thinking i'm on a tin-can string out here, and i'll keep paying that reduced "tri" yearly charge. I cannot get DSL out here they say at the main ATT center, but the tech has a wall full of lines with slots next to each one and tells me that's where he hooks up the DSL service that we've had available for years. Communication breakdown, i guess. It's a very wet night out tonight and i'm writing this from my dial-up.
