Help - I am installing a new vintage air system and need to use the port in my intake manifold for a heater hose. But that port currently has a coolant sensor in it - and I need to find a way to measure the engine coolant temp. Any ideas?
Thanks, Mike |

Use the one on right cylinder head . It has a pipe plug in it now you can use a3/8 extension get it out and put the sender there.

Mike,
I assume that you're running a V8. That being the case, there are plugs in both cylinder heads (front and rear) that will work well for a temperature sending unit. If you're using a "manual" sending unit, the cylinder head opening may not be deep enough to facilitate that. Ray

What year is your engine? They didn't start putting plugs for temp sensons, until late 60's yearly 70's....If that's the case there are other options....Such as a thermostat housing with a temp senson bung....Just gotta know.

The engine is a 1966, 327. There are no other plugs in the cylinder heads. I like the idea of the thermostat housing with a temperature sensor bung - do you know where I might find one?
Thanks, Mike |

I found a 1" spacer with two extra 1/2 npt ports at Street Rod Stuff and a temperature sensor at Summit Racing. Later I found a 1.5" spacer with one extra port at Vintage Air.
Although this isn't the greatest fix to my issue (I'm taking the coolant temp on the other side of the thermostat), It will have to do. Thanks for the help. Mike |

Description:
This 1" aluminum spacer mounts below the thermostat housing & gives you an additional pair of 3/8" N.P.T. female ports. These can be used for quick and easy connections for a temperature gauge, fan switch, or various sending units. Both the top & bottom surfaces feature an o-ring design for optimum sealing to prevent leakage while providing a universal fit. •Fits Small & Big Block Chevrolet V-8 engines. •DOES NOT FIT '92-97 LT1 & LS1, LS6 based Chevy engines ![]()
