I am trying to decide what headers to run on my 55 and my 56. Just trying to get ideas at this point. I know that most brands offer tri five headers, but what seems to be the ones that fit best ? My 56 will have the 500 series sterring box while my 55 is the stock manual box. Is anyone offering ceramic coated black headers ?

Man. Do you have some choices. Shortys, 3/4 length and full length. Different diameter tubing etc. Depends on the motor you're going with. I have Hedman 1 3/4 full length on mine.
For black ceramic coating......here's one source..... http://www.summitracing.com/search/B.../?autoview=SKU

I like full length, but i am running 2" drop spindels and 15 " wheels. Wonder if ground clearance going over speed bumps ect.. could be an issue ? The engine is a 383 stroker with sportsman 2 cast heads. The 55 will be a 4 spd and the 56 400 turbo.

found that the ones that fit the best without any problems are block hugging type and don't break the bank.

If you have removed your frame side rear engine mounts, there are full length headers available. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it Doug's that sells these?

Troy, I run the ceramic Sanderson huggers on mine. I know you've seen them but maybe don't remember. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you want full length headers and are concerned with ground clearance, there are 3 headers to consider. You'll need to side mount your engine, use a transmission crossmember, and remove the rear engine mount frame brackets on the frame for all 3.
Your 3 headers are: 1. Earle Williams. They will clear a power steering box, and they will also clear stock clutch linkage. 2. Dougs 353. They look the same as the EW header but it's claimed they are not the same. I can't argue it because I don't know. 3. Hooker 2112. I've seen fit complaints about them on these boards (not recently though) but others say they fit fine. I'm guessing they work fine. I bought the EW headers for my car and am very satisfied. Hooker and Hedman sell some nice headers that will fit, and they will clear the rear engine mount brackets, work with clutch linkage, etc. but the ground clearance is not so good. |

From Rick....."Hooker and Hedman sell some nice headers that will fit, and they will clear the rear engine mount brackets, work with clutch linkage, etc. but the ground clearance is not so good."
He hit the nail on the head. My Hedman have little ground clearance and my '56 isn't even lowered like yours. I have to be careful.

Purchased Stainless Works. 56 has side mounts (3/4 forward), PS, 500 box, 2" dropped, rear engine mounts removed and tubular trans. They are 1 3/4. Great clearance. Had to install drivers side from the bottom.
