To those that have made the rear spring pocket kit modification to their ride:
Are you happy with the results? How is the handling? Any difference in braking or in handling corners? How did you re-mount a rear sway bar if you had one before? Would you do it again? Thanks

A pocket kit by itself only gives you 3/4" per side more room for tires.
If you do a mini-tub in conjunction with a pocket kit, you gain 3" per side more room for tires. A narrower rear axle may be necessary or desirable to achieve the wheel/tire fit and the look you want. You are going to lose roll stiffness when you move the springs in. Some guys don't notice or don't care. You should consider 5 leaf springs, a rear sway bar, or both, to increase roll stiffness. Standard rear sway bars won't fit with a pocket kit. Hellwig has a sway bar specifically for pocket kits. And it's adjustable. |

Is it possible to run Caltracs bars with a spring pocket kit?

I have two 56`s. One with a spring pocket kit and one with the springs swapped side to side and remounted to the inside of the chassis.
The one with the spring pockets is much better handling than the other one but it also has a front sway bar which did make a lot of difference in hadling. I think that it is now probably handling much better than stock as I also have 6 or seven leaf springs as well( cant remember without looking) The one with the springs on the inside of the chassis handles like crap but I just drive it accordingly. It is mainly drag raced anyway and it hooks up really good and goes straight so I dont bother trying to do anything about the handling. It also has 90/10 shocks and a spool so it`s not such a great cornering car. Spring posckets are a good easy and cheap way of giving more tyre clearence. |
