I'm getting a 57 Chevy 4dr & it has the original 6cyl auto which I believe is locked up. Well the car comes with a good carb. 305 & 700R4 out of an 88 chevy wagon that the guy was gonna put in it. Well I know I need a small block side engine mount kit, but what would I need to install the 700R4? Is it just a bolt in thing? Any help would be appreciated...

H.O. you`ll need to get you a rear trans crossmember to put in to help support it. I used a crossmember from a mid-70s camaro. Terry.

Unless you are going to use the computer and wiring harness out of the 88 wagon, you will also have to get a kit to make the 700r4 work without the computer. We just put one in our 2004r tranny and it works great. It is the TCI unit and it installs in about 30 minutes. You have to pull the pan but you don't have to take anything else off. You swap out a vacumn switch and plug in a new wire or two but that is it. You will also need the TV cable (sortof like a kick down cable that goes from the tranny to the carb). It does a lot more than kick down. It is the lifesblood of the tranny. Go to the TCI site and they will show you how to mount it and set it. You only need to do it once. The kits is only $79 too and thats lets you use the lock-up feature in the 7004r. It is easy to install with no special tools needed.

HOPOWER... I am getting ready to drop a 350 TPI engine and 700r4 in the 56 beauville. I have the factory wiring harness and ECM. I just sent away for a book on using the stock harness instead of using an aftermarket. When I take a look thru it, I'll let you know if it is any use to you. Roger

You will also need to have the driveshaft shortened (the 700r4 is longer that a powerglide or 3-speed manual but it only costs about $60 to have it done) and you will also have to rework the column shift unless you add a floor shifter.
