My left indicator on my 57 works fine until i turn in the lights, then it just comes on dimlie and doesn't flash. The wiring in the car is all original. The car has not been restored in any way and is my only car so i need to get this fixed.

I'd be looking for a dodgy earth on one of the dual filament lights. If the earth is not good, the path to earth is a tortuous one through the other filament then to the other end of the car - until you turn the lights on, then there's nowhere to go because now there's + on both sides of the twin filaments.
Is it when the parkers are on or the headlights or both? And do you have dual filaments in the front, rear or both? Mike. Brisbane. |

As Mike suggested make sure that the bulbs are correct, you can run a temporary earth to ground the grill bar, also make sure your flasher can is suited

I agree, it's gotta be a dirty problem....Oh, I mean ground (on this side of the earth).

Oops Sorry, am I using Aussie expressions again. I'll try to remember it's ground - not earth, hood instead of bonnet, trunk rather than boot and sidewalk for footpath.
There'll be many others that I'm sure to forget and cause confusion with. Cheers. ![]() Mike |

We use a lot of different terms besides what's in the repair manuals also. Pumpkin, third member, center section, instead of differential comes to mind.

I recently had this problem in my 55 when trying LEDs in the park lights. They worked fine until the park or headlights came on. The issue was in the parklight housing ground. If there's a poor ground/earth, the 12V will come into the bulb, then back to the turn indicator in the dash. The LEDs were more sensitive to the stray voltage than the filament-style bulbs.

The problem happens with headlight or park lights on. So i guess the tale light will be a good place to look. It was working fine till a couple of days ago.
Thanks for the info |
