I believe you need to use a pitman arm from a manual box-if you had original power steering, you will need to get a pitman arm for a manual box...correct me if I am wrong!

Mine is off a manual box. The reason I was asking was because the pitman arm only slides on to the shaftabout a 1/4". Don't really want to put the nut on and force it up the shaft and screw something up.

You have to align the splines for it to go up.

If the splines are line up just install the nut and tighten it up I dont know the torque spec for it but with mine after the nut was install I had about 2 or 3 treads showing when tighten up, hope this helps you out. Are you sure you have the pitman arm not upside down its a taper shaft when installing it make sure the ball is up for the linkage. Later Bill

If it is a used pitman arm (sometimes even a new one), you might have to hit the splines with a file to clean them up...still takes a bit to draw them together. Make sure it is lined up correctly and tighten 'er down.

It may not go all the way up on the splines, but you should have 2-3 threads showing after you install the nut and torque it.
