Is there any differance in the bodys of a 2 door Bel Air,2 door 210 and 2 door 150 besides the molding? Could a 210 be turned into a bel air easily?

No difference but trim. You could turn a 210 into a Belair if you had the trim but you'd have to drill a lot of holes around the windows and for the BelAir emblems. Other emblems are different too.

A number of 150s were businessman's coupes with no back seat, just a plywood shelf for Fuller Brush inventory, etc. No stainless whatsoever around the windshield and back glass, no side stainless, no belt line stainless. The rear quarter glass is stationary, so window mechanisms would have to be installed to make the windows roll up and down. All the 2-door sedans used the same body shells but the 150 came with nothing, not even armrests or ashtray. As stated above, a 150 can be altered into either a 210, 210 Del Ray, or a Bel Air clone, but so many parts are required and it would likely be so expensive, a junk donor car beyond hope would probably be the way to go. My '55 2-door sedan is an original Del Ray, but a good number of the Del Rays today are clones. Mark

Standard 210s had cloth interiors including headliners. The Del Ray featured all-vinyl interior including headliner, and had a distinctive "waffle pattern" on the door panels. Mark
PS: I was curious about the spelling, so I found a photo of a 1958, which had Delray script on the side, and it shows "Delray". Last edited by grandmas55; 12-07-2007 at 12:50 AM.. Reason: added PS |

Hi, Brian:
I saw your photos of the Delray, very nice, and I thought it was my interior. You know what is interesting, though, is the side glass area between the beltline and roof, while yours is the top and trunk color, mine is the lower body color; in other words, the areas around my side glass are Harvest Gold. I know mine came from the factory this way (Fremont, CA/GM calls it Oakland) as it has been in the family since day one and had the original paint when I inherited it. I saw a guy this past summer at a graffitti night who brought a '55 2-door sedan with India Ivory around the door glass, like yours, and said he bought his vehicle from the original owner with original paint. He said, and it makes sense, how this window area was painted depended on which factory built the car. I could not decide how I wanted mine painted (Ivory or Gold around the side glass as both look good) so I left the decision to the painter, who went original. Mark |
