I see no problem with grinding out the tube with a Dremmel and putting in the snap in socket. The end of the tube is riveted over, so grinding through the tube will allow it to snap off and come out...

I don't understand why you would allow for spring wrap, when more than 99% of the driving will be at road height with 1 or 2 passengers. In the 15 seconds or less accelerating, your probably not...

The E-Z wiring harness colors should match the GM...

The E-Z wiring harness colors should match the GM van column colors. The only one that may be different is the green horn wire may connect to a black GM column wire.

The height is not that critical, the shape of the bracket determines that. I think it's about even with the dash bottom, as the bracket is U shaped. See photo 1 on page 16....

It's probably a weak circuit breaker in the switch. As mentioned, there are 2 thermal circuit breakers in the switch. One for the tail/ dome/stop/etc. and one for the headlights and park lights....

Diode won't hurt. Do you have a diode across the starter solenoid or A/C clutch? It draws a lot more current than that tiny lock up solenoid.
