Ray, I don't paint very much anymore and I have found that Epoxy primer is very forgiving for a novice/amateur to use. I use and really like SPI but I expect most Epoxies are close to the same.
I am in the process of painting my frame right now and let me advise that you need to fabricate some type of rotisserie to turn the frame as you spray. It is very difficult to get in the correct position any other way. I did not do that form the Epoxy primer coat but I am doing so for the top coat because the primer coat was very difficult. I am making it out of two engine stands that I already had.
I blasted my frame and there are a lot of areas that it is almost impossible to get a spray gun into. None are visible once the body is back on, so I mixed up the epoxy and brushed it on those areas to protect them from the elements. A pro probably wouldn't do that, but it worked for me.
