Thanks Guys! Iím off work for a few days and plan to really dial in the carbs. Had some stumbling issues on the first couple of drives. Discovered this engine likes LOTS of initial timing. Magneto has 14 degrees of mechanical advance put in it. When I timed the mag initially I set timing at 36 degrees total. After bumping timing up 2 degrees at a time I arrived at 40 total with 26 initial. The stumbling is completely gone. After setting toe in to 1/4Ē and verifying that king pin inclination was still at 7 degrees I took it up to 80 m.p.h. On the highway with ZERO issues. Drives, steers and runs great! Planning on taking to itís first car show Saturday 65 miles away from home. Hopefully all goes well.

Default The fun begins

Only up to 80, just getting out of second gear, huh?
Sounds like creeping up on the timing issue paid off
on the trip to the car show, sounds like fun, I'm betting there will be a lot of interested people looking at your beast.
Hope all goes well for you on the car show trip, anxious to hear all about it, maybe see some pics, wink , wink, nod, nod, know what I mean?

Later,
Jim

Thanks Jim. Still listening for any strange sounds while driving. The exhaust is so look I canít hear much of anything besides cam chop. Cam lope doesnít clear up until about 2,600-2,800 rpm. Sounds killer rolling along at 60 mph in 4th gear and the cam is still cutting up. I love it. We will enter the car show with the GoPro recording and post it after.

I have that same issue with the cam in the BBC in my '63 Falcon. It really loves to rev, and doesn't smooth out until around 2500 rpm's. I was planning to change it out to something a bit more street friendly, but just bought a '39 Chevy coupe project. So the Falcon has gone up for sale to help fund the '39 Chevy instead.

Good luck on the 65 mile drive to the show! Hope the drive goes flawlessly!

I'm a loving fool when it comes to cam chop too. I once had a GM Can-Am fuel injected cam in a 427 that would gallop through town in 2nd gear. Everyone told me that that motor was the coolest sounding thing they'd ever heard cruising town.

The thing was, GM built it with a very long duration to wind to the moon, but also a very wide LSA too to pull really hard off a turn. It was about the most 'perfect for me' cam I'd ever had. Those things are so rare now that some guys are asking over a grand for an NOS one now.

Anyways, you have gotten so very far along on your build, and that is amazing! Enjoy that beast.

I knew a man years back with a Ď69 Corvette road race car. It was a real one with history and he had it shipped all over the globe to run it in vintage races. No rubbing paint by any means but his had a L-88 that was factory correct except for the cam you mentioned for the Can-Am. Wickedest sounding BBC Iíve ever heard. Throttle response was crazy. Well, the car show Saturday was a total wash out. I wound up trailering the car up there with faith it would stop raining. It did not. I will try to get GoPro vid of me cruising it around here next week. Stay tuned. Thanks so much for all the compliments and help from the past 2 years!!!
