I took a chance on some corn cob bulbs I found at Menards. They are 500W equivalent LED Feit Electric 5000K 10,000 lumen that my useage meter shows use less than 100 actual watts.
Here is my 40x60 pole barn with only 2 of them lit.
There are now 9 of them total with 3 each on 3 individual circuits. I do believe I have achieved complete overkill at that level. Quite satisfactory, and that is from a guy whose eyes aren't what they used to be.
Here it is in use with 3 bulbs lit. My 16 year old is getting his ride ready.
I was concerned about clearance to the overhead door but there is a couple of inches to spare. If the boxes were surface mounted it might be too close.
Now that I have first hand experience with them, I would not be afraid of using lower lumen corn cob bulbs. These are the 500 watt equivalents, and I noticed that the 300 watt equivalents are about 2-3 inches shorter.
