...Saving Private Ryan on Monday night, and Patton on Tuesday and last night. Awe and Gratitude do not come near what I feel about what they did. How fortunate I feel to have known so many WWII veterans - and thanks again, Dad.
Those brave men on D-day and many others secured the freedom we have in the present day, many with the ultimate sacrifice. We should never forget our appreciation for them. It is a moving thing to see the tributes to them and always will be.
As I watched all the coverage I couldn't help shed a tear. I stood in front of the TV and saluted the remaining WWII vets that traveled to Normandy and were recognized by all. Sadly my Dad has passed and since he served in the Army Airborne I wish he was still here to answer many questions I have of his military time in that war. I do remember him saying that he was fearful of being shot down over Germany , not so much from the German soldiers but from the townspeople who would butcher and torture the American soldiers for bombing their towns . The pride and heroism of that generation will never be matched. But let us not forget all who served in Vietnam, the Gulf , Afghanistan , and all other deployments. My son is 90% disabled from injuries sustained in Afghanistan.......to him and all who served and currently are deployed away from family and this USA , God Bless and Thank You.
