Default Greed?

I was set to buy some fairly expensive trim parts from Real Deal Steel. Got to the checkout page and saw $15 shipping - seemed fair. But then I saw there was an additional $28 charge for "handling". That was enough to change my mind. I guess if the charge had been built into the price I might not have noticed, or cared, but when I have to pay $28 extra for someone to pick something off a shelf and put it in a box, that's when I shop elsewhere.

Thats what I am seeing lately as well. And some are Charging way to much for shipping on small items. Making the price double and in some cases triple!

Makes you wonder how Summit and a few others can offer free shipping and meet or beat the price of their suppliers.
I can understand small parts shipping cost. They can not depend on USPS. Their tracking system is worthless and more parts are lost than delivered. They are forced to use UPS, or the like, to ensure delivery.

Semi-hidden charges are not news. It's been going on forever.

Think about how long the tire retailers have been doing add on charges. And they all do.

It does make you appreciate the straight up deal that Summit and Jegs use. And don't think for a minute that Summit and Jegs don't know this.

Shipping cost have gotten so bad that I have a hard time selling used parts now days. I cannot justify selling a part for 10 dollars and because of it's size the shippers wants 25.00.

Truth be told, large companies have huge discounts on shipping from FedEX and UPS that they make loads of money off the shipping charges. Many times their profit is increased 100% because of it.

When you are a large company like Summit and others, they can offer free shipping on orders of 100.00 because the shipper is backing up a 53 foot trailer to the loading dock of Summit and the staff fills the trailer and then at the end of the day a driver shows up to haul it all away in one trip. Unlike me, that may ship 3-5 items per week. My rates are so high as to discourage me from having a driver come to pick up a package from my shop.

Ecklers pays pennies on the dollar(they charge) for shipping to the large shipping companies because it is based on years of Volume. The larger the Volume the greater the discount. THEY DON'T PASS THIS ON TO THE BUYER. It is another way of making profit, that is not normally seen by the buyer.

Default Greed

When you buy a new vehicle you pay a dealer prep charge which is a ripoff.

the worse part yet is that the parts may be drop shipped from a mfg and the seller never even handled the part just pushe a few buttons on a keyboard.

a lot of danchuk and classic industries parts can be had thru summit racing free shipping on orders over $100 no handling charges.

I ordered the remote trunk release kit from Eckler's, couldn't find it anywhere else. $35.00 shipping. BIG box, opened it, inside a smaller box and lots of crumpled paper. Opened the smaller box, inside, a smaller box and crumpled paper. The parts actually shipped could have fit in one of those post office priority boxes, but NO...........
