Anyone know if the hooker 2292-1 headers will clear the shift linkage from a column shift going to a 4l65e currently have the patriot shortys but hate the clearance to the 500 box also might pick up a few hp my first time posting 56 bel air 408 ls3 thanks for any answers
Thanks for replying yes I tried a search first but couldnít find my specific answer the hooker site states the 2292-1 wonít clear auto column shift just wanted to see if someone had used them with a shortened auto stock column (CPP) mine works fine with the shorty patriot that are now on it thanks again
Guess I didnít make my question clear yes my concern is whether the linkage between the column shift lever and the trans will clear even with more modifications the long tube headers.I have the shift works linkage kit currently on it which works great except for no reverse lock out always have to be carefull if Iím manually shifting through the gears usually just leave it in drive or manual 3 works well that way thanks Iím going to try & call hooker but not expecting much also going to ask if they have changed theyíre o2 bung locations read that everyone has to reposition them not a big deal except Iíll like to get them already coated
The 2292 headers do clear a power steering box quite nicely. I think they'll clear the arm that's on the column just fine. But the #7 tube does sweep back more than on a typical SBC header so clearance to the linkage rod is a possibility. If you mounted the engine further forward the linkage would probably clear - but of course that might cause other problems like crowding things between the accessory drive and radiator/fans, as well as oil pan to steering clearance.
Keep in mind that the collectors haven't had any flange on them in the past, so if you want them, that's another deal with buying coated headers besides the O2 bung.
The #7 tube could be why hooker states it wonít work.with the patriot mid length on it now the #7 tube is pretty much straight down & the column lever only misses it by about 1/2 ď or so when pulled down to l1 I wouldnít have enough room to move the engine forward any only about 1/2 to 3/4 between the water pump pulley & radiator electric fan may just have to rework the #3 tube to the 500 steering box for a little more clearance I have heat wrapped now & only about 1/4Ē clearance after dinging it still gets the p/s fluid hot & I cant run a cooler I tried it effects the hydro boost unit because of the restriction through the cooler thanks for the input
Hydroboost return needs to go DIRECTLY back to the Reservoir NOT through a cooler, hence your issues. The cooler only cools the steering gear fliud (which is what gets hot) as most times fluid is by passing the HB internally anyway. EVERY OEM installs hydroboost this way with ZERO issues.
Also Tee'ing the HB into the steering return is asking for trouble. Ideally you want to add a second return for HB to the res. you can connect it to PS return AFTER the cooler with ideally a Y connector. If you have to use a Tee make sure the HD is the straight section of tee to the res.
Install a cooler and install your HB return CORRECTLY which is directly to res and it will fix your PS fluid getting hot.
