View Poll Results: If separate replacement panels were available for inner cowl sheet metal?
Actually it would be 100% profit for RDS as they are already making the parts... It would be a matter of pulling them out of the A pillar sub-assembly and slapping SKU#'s on the parts which, I gather from Joe, their manufacturer doesn't want to do...
Peanuts for the individual parts. Selling pieces will deter people from buying the assemblies. They want to sell assemblies.
I talked to Joe about this. The RDS A pillar sub-assembly is made for use in their complete body assembly. They offer it separately because it's "there". He told me they don't sell that many of them. At 500 bucks it's a lot to spend if you don't need the whole pillar and window frame, which most repairs don't. That is why we make our own patch panels I guess.
My philosophy is, I would rather sell a handful of peanuts then a handful of nothing. The opportunity is there to make money with existing parts, why not take it?
If I am off base Joe can chime in and set us all straight.
Good discussion, keeps the thread at the top.
I posted this in my deer hit thread but thought i would update this one as well.
Went out to the shop this afternoon and cut out the replacement drain channel parts. I am doing this in two pieces rather then one just to ease getting everything welded in.
These are the tall covers that keep water coming off the upper cowl from splashing down on the fresh air vents. LH and RH.
These are the flat patterns for the actual channel that goes under the cover. One is left, one is right. I'll get these bent up tomorrow.
This is an approximate positioning on the cowl.
These should do the job just fine.
I modeled these up last Monday... It was 9 degrees here, I was NOT going out to the shop...
Here are dimensioned drawings if you want to copy them.
The covers, 1 right, 1 left, mind the bend, this is the right hand side.
This is the flat pattern for the channels. Again there are two needed, 1 left and 1 right. This is the right side.
This is the right side bent up.
These are some screen shots of my computer models.
I spent about an hour cutting these out today. With the bending, trimming and fit up I'll do tomorrow I'll have about 2 hours into making them...
