Thats what I thought till my mechanical pump broke on the way to a car show and I had to be flat bedded home. The internal pump stem broke off at the top of the stem. Never again, electric all the way now. I drove to Bowling Green last summer 1650 miles round trip with a cheap 20 dollar plastic electric fuel pump I got off ebay. Had another one in the trunk just in case it quit which can be changed in less then 10 minutes. Had no problem with the first one.

Which is why mechanical pumps contribute to vapour lock with modern "jungle juice"

A bit of line pressure from having a pump near the tank can help the problem.

The pump of choice is a Walbro FRB-13-2 on a road car.
They are USA MADE.

They can dry lift up to 48", run dry for 4 hours
and deliver a minimum of 44 GPI at 8.0 psi
18000 hours continuous run on diesel.

US Coastguard approved

The catch is..........they cost $150 from Summit

edit: many years ago while playing with Alternative fuels, I converted a Mitsubishi Pajero [Montero] to run on Waste Mineral oil [Mainly used engine oil and trans fluid]
I needed a good lift pump/helper pump to get the concoction through the Diesel filters. I burnt out 3 pumps in a month [Facets, Holley etc] then switched over to the Walbro.
After 100,000 I sold the vehicle to another Alt Fuel enthusiast and the pump is still going strong on the same vehicle.

Also the big factor in vapor lock can be the heat from the engine mounted mechanical pump. That is why I got rid of mine. Got it to show the boiling in the clear plastic fuel filter sitting running in the driveway, that was even with a bypass back to the tank. Then put the garden hose on the mechanical pump and it stopped boiling. No vapor lock since the electric pump.
