Most aftermarket wiring harnesses have a fusible link at the starter to the alternator wire, to protect against a melt down if the alternator wire shorts out against a pulley, exhaust pipe or is pinched someplace on it's way to the starter.

For 100 amps, I think you need a blue fusible link.

Agree....When I did my AAW harness on my 55, they used a fusable link between the starter and alternator....Now they use a megafuse...See link:https://www.americanautowire.com/PDF...20IN%200.0.pdf

after removing the melted fusible link i will replace with a maxi fuse --trying to figure out what amp fuse to use. the only electronics i have are lights --ignition and a sterio--also trying to figure out what might have caused the link to burn out in the first place

What color link was it? It may not be rated for your alternator.

The fusible link should be 4 gauges smaller then the wire it is protecting so 14ga is correct for a 10ga feed wire.

That's really nice to know! Is there a certain length they should be? I don't *think* I have any in my *painful* wiring harness. I put an 80 amp fuse between the alt and the bat, and another 80 from the battery to EVERYTHING.
