Default ecklers very poor customer service

After building 3 cars with parts from ecklers over the years, I ordered a custom exhaust # 7-172-770 from the picture that is right below the #. I spoke to a gentleman in cust. serv. about the specs and would it fit my 56 210 sedan with a 327 and muncy 4 sp.. I specifically said I wanted it to come out the side NOT out the back. He agreed that the pic was what it is. Since the item was a sale item for the net I ordered it that way. Now this item is for a project car and this is December. NOW it is ready to install in July so as we started to pre fit everything I noticed the fit was terrible, pipes hanging to low, very poor bends from front pipes to x pipe and that was just the start. NOTHING went easy! NOW I get to the box with the tail pipes and the things come straight out the back. So i called ecklers and they wanted pics so I sent them pics. NOW I wait and wait for some response nothing. After 3 service reps. I finally got a supervisor and her response was--- first I had them to long, 2nd I tried to install them and maybe scratched them, and the best yet--- the pic does NOT represent the stock # above the item ! That's a different # listed below ! SORRY nothing we can do! I just spent another 225.00 getting them to fit right. BEWARE of ecklers.

Seems they have a history of this type of customer service....

I'm always curious as to why people choose to spend the same amount of $ if not more to piece together and exhaust system with clamps vs taking to a shop that will custom bend any route you want and weld the system together....

I get the guys who want to keep it as original as possible but just never made sense to me to lay under a car and assemble a system when having it done was cheaper.......

I agree, however you have to know of a good shop to get it done right.

I don't know about CA, but here in OR a basic header back system, with some inexpensive mufflers and cheap crush bent pipes will set you back $1000 or more. For less money, you can get a much better mandrel bent stainless steel kit from Flowmaster which actually fits. Of course you do have to fab up the connection to the headers.

Interesting....... With a parts cost of $100.00 (2 - cheap mufflers and 20' of 2 1/2" steel pipe) and 3 hours of labor I would think anything over the cost of $500.00 is price gouging....

I use a shop here that lets me bring in my own mufflers and hand them to him.... I haven't needed a complete system in many years but every time I'm there the cost is always current shop hourly labor rate plus parts/materials.

I wonder why those costs are so high in Oregon... I would think I should be the one complaining about the cost of farming out work here in Klownifornia???

Unfortunately you found out the hard way that has been their customer service motto for many years.

The muffler stores up here get no exhaust work from newer vehicles because the systems don't rot out like the did in the old days. I think they charge at least $100/hour for their exhaust work and claim they spend hours fabbing up their crappy systems.

The previous owner of my '55 was charged $1000 for the header back system he had done in Reno, NV.

I sent one of my friends to one of my customers' Midas shop to install his Magnaflow system on a Mustang show car. They said they would "hook him up" on a deal. They hooked him up alright-$1800 to install his supplied system....and they did a horrible job. They couldn't figure out how to run the pipes over the four link rear end. Exhaust system practically dragging on the ground front and rear. It was pretty bad. He had to take it to a friend of his, who never did exhaust work, and they made up some new tailpipes in a couple of hours.... for free. We're still friends, but he does remind me of that raping he took every now and then.

I totally agree but in my case I had to drive 20 miles to a custom shop and with nothing but headers on I didn't thing that was a good idea. NOW it is awesome.. My guy is Jamie Freeman @ rt 6 autoworks in Wellsboro, Pa. 570-723-2000. This young guy actually cares about his work and is VERY fair in his pricing.

Well I sent Ecklers my bill from the muffler shop and NO response, haha. go figure. Is it just me or does most of this aftermarket stuff suck in fit and quality ?
