While I agree with some of what you are saying I don't think it is a good idea to make excuses for a company that clearly has no clue what customer service is.
Well you're right about that and perhaps I should have said my comment in a different way.

When you buy a part and don't inspect/use it until after the retailer's return policy window, you shouldn't be surprised if you can't return it for credit or replacement. Doesn't really matter where you bought it.

Likewise if you use the part and modify it to make it work, it's an even bigger stretch to expect any compensation from any retailer.

Now all that said, there's no good reason to ever buy something from Ecklers. They not only will treat you badly after the sale, they are likely to treat you badly during the sale.

Just like there's no good reason to buy CPP stuff.

Bruce, is that better?

The only thing we haven't addressed here for the OP is this:

Buying ANY reproduction/replacement part IS A CRAP SHOOT. Unless you've purchased the same part before from the same mfg, and know the issues... you should EXPECT many issues, and like someone said, with sheet metal panels you are better off to use as much of the original metal as possible (and as little of the repro metal)...

And I'd also suggest rather than buying large parts for shipping across the country, FIND a LOCAL vendor for the part; if there's a problem the return is much easier and less expensive, and that vendor has more recourse than you if he has to ship back the part. There are vendors for most TriFive parts in almost all states.

Do the sheet metal caveats also apply to panels from Woody's/Golden Star?

Another example (today) from ECKLERS CLASSIC CHEVY (Titusville, FL)...

I had been planning on rebuilding my door window regulators for my '57 Nomad, but yesterday after cleaning and inspection some more, I realized that all of the hinge points were very worn, especially on the driver's door, so last night I began checking on prices for new regulators. Pricing ranged from ~ 90/side to 105/side plus shipping.

Today I got Eckler's daily email (25% discount for members on orders over $200!)... so I checked online - List price $104.99 ea, so over $200 for both! I selected the parts via the online order form... price came back at $83.99 each which is LESS than 25% discount, so I called them. First lady I talked to told me the price as a member would be slightly less than 20% discount. I told her about the email (25% off for members!), so she went away to check... I held for 10-15 minutes, finally the connection ended! #&$%^$%%$ .. so I called back, went thru the story again... lady#2 gave me a price each of 76.99 each (which is slightly more than 25% discount)... then I asked how much to get them to me... total price? She added $50.xx for shipping, and $15.xx for TAX (Alabama is supposed to get 4% for online orders - $15 is nearly 10% ... (their computer calculations are even WRONG!)... now her total was at $209 (back at twice the retail price)... I told her NO THANKS... and then told her that even Eckler's computers couldn't do simple calculations, and all their problems were turning away even long time customers/members (I'm a lifetime member - unfortunately? - since 1978). Of course this began by them telling me the parts were in stock... but if I'd ordered.. who knows when I would have received them!

It seems their upper management (big corp) are too far away to be involved, their middle management there in Titusville do not seem to care if their business grows or goes away, and the people they hire - minimum wage? - for doing the work do not KNOW ANYTHING about classic chevys, nor are they given any incentive/autonomy in addressing the problems that must be pointed out to them by essentially every customer who calls them!!

Thumbs down Another Step Away

After all the negative comments posted here and trashing my newest Ecklers Rag Mag. I have taken another step to distance myself from a Bad Experience.
I have Unsubscribed from the E-Mail Notification list that Eckler's Robots send.
I am doing this as a stand with my Brothers of Frustration on this site.
Does Ecklers Hear Us???

I had that thought as well, Chief! I get FOUR daily emails from Ecklers; they usually state 'UP TO 20%'... but when I check on any parts I might order, NONE of them are ever discounted! the 'UP TO X% discount' statements just seems like ONE MORE effort to mislead customers... about the same as 'bait and switch' deals, extreme addon $$, etc. It seems they are trying LURE customers and make $$ however they can, and not one of them understands the ONLY Way to do that is to OFFER consistent pricing, good honest customer service, and CARING about their customers!

I've run into that also. It says "up to" 20% but when you put it in the cart it says this item can not be reduced. And don't believe their discounted price is a good deal, even if you find a part that has the full discount.

Wait!
I finally found a part that has big discount. A $93 part for only $52. Wow. https://www.classicchevy.com/chevy-d...1955-1957.html

But Wait!
I found the same part for $40 from another vendor. https://www.danchuk.com/ItemForm.aspx?Item=057
