Default ** 235 hydraulic lifter interchange?

Chasing one clacking lifter on a friends 54 with a PG hydraulic motor. I see some NOS lifters for sale with a description of 58-62 chevy 235 hydraulic. Wouldn't they also work back to 53 powerglide 235s? Or is there a difference on post-58's that i haven't heard of?

Default lifter noise

I'll attach a link to lots of fixes re 235s. Hydraulic lifters can trap air and cause problems, the link may address that issue.
Best of luck

I've read through and done that (put the groove on the pushrods and notched the sides of the plungers that didn't have air holes.)

One is particularly annoying, it comes and goes but it's more there than it's not. I want to yank it and clean it, i feel like the plunger gets stuck. The owner would rather replace all of them.

The blog doesn't address if there are year differences in the lifters, and if they'll interchange. I read on one post somewhere that the 58-62 were tapered a little to allow oil to the top end, and if you don't use those no oil will go up top? Maybe i read wrong?

I hate to have him buy NOS 59-62 lifters and then introduce another issue into the mix.

I think I would check out that one lifter, hopefully it's fixable. Have heard lots of complaints regarding inferior hyd lifters that are sold today, may need to take the expensive NOS route if you cannot fix the bad lifter.
Best of luck.

Here's a link to Langdon's Stovebolt site, has a good reputation, sells quality parts. http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/sto...235/p/33580030

He has no problem buying the NOS lifters, but i'm not 100% they're the same lifter as they're listed as 58-62.

Langdon's should be able to answer your question.

There is a difference. PM me, I am pretty sure I have a few NOS early 235 power glide hydraulic lifters, probably 5 or 6, maybe 7, don't remember offhand. I will never use them. Happy to swap for like 55-58 lifters or 59-62 lifters or we can probably work something else out.

Hydraulic lifters for a 1954 Chevy with a 235 and PG transmission are listed at Rock Auto: http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/c...ve+lifter,5548 Aren't those the correct ones?

Dragsix: thanks i'll reach out

557B210: we can get sealed power around, and there are other brands on ebay. The problem is that many report issues with them collapsing or leaking down quickly after install. I do not like tearing things apart more than once and we're on time 3 with this problematic lifter. If we're going in again, we'd like to have the best odds of fixing it, so we're chasing older lifters.

It's confusing because of info like this, post 4:

Quote:
The Sealed Power part number is HT761 if that helps you any. The same lifter is used in all 235's with hydraulic lifters 53-62
