Default 55 Speedo needle

Small aluminum Needle on my 55 speedo is broken off near the shaft. Has anyone ever repaced the needle? If so, how do You remove it without damaging the speedo? Looks like a push on fit, but it doesn't want to budge. Option is a new repro speedo for $189.00

The needle just pushes on to a pointed shaft. This is a 57 speedometer but the 55/56 has the same internal parts under the faceplate. See pictures 4 and 5. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/fb...ter_Repair.pdf

Not sure about the '55, but my '63 Corvette twists on and off. I'll bet it's the same, if you turn it backwards while lifting, it should come off.

I can sell you a nice used needle for 20.00. To remove your old one take a needle nose plyers and hod the copper shaft. The with a small thin blade screw driver pry against the underside of the hub on the needle and the body of the speedo. It will come right off. To install just reverse and tap the needle down with a small mallet and a block of wood, while some one holds the shaft. It is a press fit. There is only one place it can go with the speedo spring holding the shaft in the lowest position.

Mikey...I've often wondered if the Chevy truck needle would work on 55/56 speedometers:http://www.classicpartsusa.com/produ...yABEgI9efD_BwE

Maybe......but I'm a mostly original guy. I don't know if it is the same length or weight.

I have replaced mine. They pull straight off. The advice with the needle nose pliers used to lift and pry it straight up is the way to go.
