and I might get by"

I tried re-jetting both ways, some minor gains...670 is the ticket

Surging almost gone. I have timing @ 14/37, no vacuum advance. lightest springs in dist.

If I connect VA, minor surging which I believe is too much timing @ 2500 or so. Hoping some "spring tuning" will cure.
If it were mine, I'd experiment with 17-18 initial just to see what it does.

This is where I wanna be but
@14, starter wants to stall out.

I think this is too much initial for starter.

Dist has green bushing (23*) and I want to change to red @ 28* I believe.

No way I can get my fingers on nut, washer and bushing !!!.

Engine works great @ around 37*, just too much load on starter.

Am I correct, heavy starter load is due to too much initial timing ?
Any thoughts ?

btw, this is gettin' to be a lot of fun to drive

Took a buddy for a drive around the block. Commented
"This thing gets a little squirrely over 60 or so"
He said, "No wonder, the front never came down!"

(I'm not used to QR PS)

Kicking back against the starter when the engine is warm is one of the limitations on initial advance. Sometimes you can open the throttle a bit while cranking and get it to do more. But the usual fix is to back off 2 degrees or so on the initial advance and put more mechanical advance in it, as you are suggesting.

I should have stated earlier...

Only kickback is cold start, first of the day.

This engine loves timing.

Thanks to the TriFive crowd for help. When I got this car, drove like a POS.
W/MSD 8360 and 670 Holly, really becoming a fun car to drive.

I feel like I'm getting real close,

What do y'all think ?

10-11 @ 900
26 @ 2600
35 @ 2500 (all in)

MSD has 2 silver light springs (all in @ 2400)
Red bushing (28)

Some problem w/compression locking
(helps to open throttle + I can spin starter then switch ignition)
Right on edge of dieseling (60-70 degrees outside),
maybe a problem in summertime ?
Still can't run vacuum adv w/o surging...might leave plugged off

Tanks for the help...MSD 8360 big problem solver.

Any suggestions ?

Gone to 17 @ 850,
all in around 2400 @ 44-45 degrees.

Spin engine a sec or 2 when cold before switching on ignition, no kickback,
no problem when warm.

No spark knock...I be luvin' this
