As far as the payment for a claim goes, Much has to be said about the appraiser. (who may be a local appraiser that does not know modified cars)

The shop, (that knows the proper way to restore the modified car)

And the adjuster, (that may have had a bad day.

And a little bit of testosterone thrown in!)

Since Hagerty and both Grundy companies issue agreed-value policies, appraisers aren't part of the equation. Any appraising required is done before the policies are written.

Typically insurance adjusters don't come and look at damage at cars anymore either.

Appraisers do examine a car and will state a value of it.

Also, (damage)Appraisers are the person that examines the damage on your car.

Adjusters do not look at your car but view the damage appraisal and determine the payout. (or not, according to the policy)

Like I said, these are agreed-value policies. Any private appraisal that might be required is done at the owner's expense and before the policy is written and evaluated by their underwriters.
The insurance company reviews body shop estimates of damage (not appraisals of damage) and might require photo documentation. They are claims adjusters, not appraisers.

In Ma., body shop "body shop estimates of damage, and appraisals of damage" are one and the same.

Both must be done by a state licensed damage appraiser.

(Just a technicality, but technicalities are what insurance companies live on)

Yeah Roger1 I just came up with the issue of different Grundy companies. Crap some of that looks deceitful

I recently had Grundy Worldwide on the phone and asked them why 2 different ones.
Explanation was that the underwriters are different because all Grundy Worldwide does is write collector-car policies underwritten by Philadelphia Insurance Companies(PHLY) while Grundy Insurance writes other kinds of policies (like homeowners, personal liability and etc.) with different underwriters. But she said that the Grundy name is just one company but made two separate websites because of the underwriter differences.

I'm guessing all Grundy does is sell their name to PHLY and that's all. I'm also guessing that claims are handled by different people too and should be evaluated separately for satisfaction reports from clients that say they have made claims. We would need to know which Grundy wrote their policy before making a judgment on their reported satisfaction of claim handling.

I used Hagerty for many years on my restored Corvettes, but then I started building Resto-mods, and Hagerty went through the roof! It turned out that Hagerty charges a premium for a "modified" car, while Grundy does not. I asked the guy at Hagerty what constituted a "modified" car, and he told me that any car that has other than original engine, suspension, brakes, ect. Technically, putting a modified smallblock and traction bars, makes a car modified!

Been with Grundy for over 10 years on all my cars, and get a very good rate. They do not care whether it is stock or modified, they simply base the premium on the agreed value of the car.

I have antique plate and am aware of stipulations. You can always say you're going to get an estimate for some repair work. That should cover it.
