Which Grundy? There's Grundy Insurance and Grundy Worldwide.

Grundy would not insure me because I do not have a private enclosed garage. Hagerty had no issues with my parking as it's a private building with a locked garage door and video system. Insured for 42,000, 100k/300k coverage driving 2000 miles a year for $718/year in Hawaii. A bit pricey, but better than no coverage.

That said, I'm in Texas too and have chosen to stay legal to the letter on this and register my 3 old cars as classics instead of antique.
I was just talking to a cop at a car show a couple of weeks ago about this. He writes tickets when he sees antique licensed vehicles on the road obviously not meeting the criteria for one.
Funny though, he was telling me about a new captain that was hired (his new boss) and he had antique plates on his oldcar and was driving it around. He said no one at the precinct had the guts to say anything. Not yet anyway.
Roger can you elaborate more on this? My 55 sedan is modified with a big block, 4 speed, buckets, etc...and I had it registered with an antique tag. I assumed anything older than twenty years could be registered as antique. The DMV never questioned anything about it when I registered it as antique. I did it that way because I wanted the cool iridescent blue tag. I also have Hagerty, my premium is $370.00 a year.

Can't speak for Florida. I was talking about Texas rules for antique registrations.
I was only stating that your insurance company isn't going to care whether you have a car registered with your state as an antique vehicle or not.

On Texas laws, there are several criteria you have to meet to qualify for "antique plates". Mine didn`t meet it i felt so i register mine with YOM plates. There are too many young gungho cops that i don`t want to deal with locally.

I use AAA collector car insurance..... They do require that the car lives in the garage but they are top notch when dealing with claims..... and much less costly than both Grundy and Hagerty......

In Florida they have to be 30 to get the antique plate
I have a 1956 plate on my 1956
Florida allows it as well as some other states.
Also very cool.
