Question Shocks?!

Since I have already gone to far with my restoration of my 56' Hardtop, I figure I might as well replace the shocks on the car. Trouble is, what do I buy? There are so many options. I really don't want to spend $100 per corner if I don't have to. Car will be a street car with an occasional quarter mile blast. Thoughts on what to get?

OEM - NOS spiral shocks are available at about $250 per corner, I would be happy with $100 per corner if I could get them.

I think you get what you pay for. Soft ride or firm ride, pick your poison... Al

Task, Purpose and expectations with results wanted are limited by the expenditure put forth.

The Monroes are decent and cheap.

KYBs would be a step up from them.

Give Gabriel Ultra a try. I just put a set on my bone stock '56. They're gas charged, but among all the shocks in the marketplace these provide the closest thing to original ride quality-albeit with slightly firmer high speed valving. I daily drive a 1994 Lincoln Towncar. From what I've read on other forums, the Gabriel Ultras are the go to shock for original ride quality (again slightly firmer) with longer life than an oil shock-if that's even available any more. The Ultras got rid of the Lincoln's tendency to float/porpoise especially at highway speeds without the added impact harshness that most other popular shocks seem to give these days. They're less than $35 per shock.
