Default Old School 57 210 Hot Rod

Last month I picked up a 57 210 2 door post from out in the CA desert. It had been described to me as a "mild hot rod build from the 70's." I started right in on making it a bit more drivable….power front discs from CPP, power steering from Borgeson, new wiring harness from AAW, new rear leaf springs, new distributor, carb, manifold. Also ordered a complete new interior from Ciadellas. While disassembling the car, we found "archeological" evidence that this may have been a bit more than a mild hot rod. There was an iron plate in the trans tunnel, welded to the frame on both sides...like someone's homemade attempt at a scatter shield. There were also traction bars on the rear end. They are similar to Cal Tracs but are not adjustable. I had never seen this type of bar back in the day, only the old slapper style traction bars. Just thought I'd share this with you guys. It's always interesting to see what previous mods were done on these cars. Here's a few pics.

Most of my old crowd called them bars 'radius rods'. I had a set on a 56 around 1970, but pulled them off and put on a much better set of Ansen Ground Grabbers. Absolutely no wheel hop with them.

Wonder if it would be worthwhile to try and restore them? The rubber is all shot and somebody tack welded one of the bolts to the bar.

Thanks Jim. Love the way your car sits. That's just the stance I'm shooting for on the 57.

Probably not. There are much better ones out there. If you like the style you have Calvert is still around and still offers them. Get out your wallet though! Some sellers want north of 600 bucks. You could probably do better on Amazon though.

Don't consider that as a rat rod, looks like a real decent cruiser

The bars are store bought from Traction Master I ran them on 2 straight line
cars with leaf springs.

http://www.tractionmaster.com/

In the 60's NHRA required a scatter shield for the "gas" classes, weld up universal scatter shield kits were available.

In the 60's I ran both items in B Gas class @ US 30 Drag strip in N IN. It was a 56 Ford 2dr sedan with a 427 side oiler, top loader 4sp & a roll bar. For some strange reason a rear seat was required in that class. @ that time if you won you class the track would pay you 5.00 or give you a trophy. I still have those trophy's.

Speedway has similar bars just north of a C-note
