Default wiring harness choice

First off I know basically very little about automotive wiring so keep this in mind. My 56 Nomad has a 265 engine power steering and front disc brakes. Other than the brakes everything is original including the ignition wires that just started smoking. Okay so AAW or painless and also which one ? They have 18 or 21 kits but what do I need for original replacement. I have no intention of adding power windows and such but perhaps later AC. It also has a generator which I do not plan on changing to alternator. Any info is appreciated, Thanks.

To get factory replacement you will need AAW "Factory Fit" only. The "Factory Fit" comes in sections, bought seperately, and is a plug-and-play harness. It requires no splicing, has all new sockets, plugs, terminals, etc. The dash harness, front light harness, engine harness, and rear section harness all plug together and are routed exactly the same as original.

All the 18, 21, or whatever circuit harnesses are universal harnesses and have to be cut, spliced to your old sockets, and made to kinda fit.

Exactly as Don says...Instead of trying to wade through and figure out which harnesses that you need, get on the phone and call AAW...Tell them that you need a Factory Fit wiring harness for your 56 Nomad and they will figure out the rest...Nice people to deal with, BTW

I have the AAW under dash harness, #CE64072, this is an exact match (according to AAW) for the 56 with radio and heater.

Let me know if your interested, I can save you some money here.

I am waiting to hear back from AAW, I went on their site and saw a video on their classic update harness which seems to be the most plug and play one. I'll see what they say . I'm assuming that if I'm going to do this I should do all the wiring throughout the car. I re-taped the bad wires and now no more smoke. There was bare oil light wire touching and I could see someone had changed a few wires already on the ignition. Funny thing though as I unwrapped the oil light wire to see how far back to go to rewrap a little sand was coming out ! Not a lot but some. Thanks for all the input!

The "update" harness is NOT plug and play. You have to do a lot of crimping terminals, choosing wire routeing, wrapping bundles, etc. The "Factory Fit" is plug and play. You do not need a special crimper. You don't have to crimp any terminals. You don't have to chose wire routing, it's the same as factory. You don't wrap wire bundles, their already wrapped just like the factory.

American Auto Wire. Anything else is second best. Quality products, easy installation, great tech support. The Factory Fit harnesses are plug and play.
