I am considering a tissue dispenser for my 56 BelAir. Will mount below glovebox, as shown in 56 Chevy Accessories Manual. Couple of questions --- are the correct size tissue boxes still available? What are the measurements of the correct size? How does one change out a box when it is empty?
The tissue dispenser box is reproduced, and available from several vendors. When mounted, the dispenser can be swiveled out to use a tissue. The back side is open to facilitate the tissue box replacement. Just so that you know, the 1956 accessory manual is in error, as it shows the 1955 tissue dispenser mounting instructions. The 1956 version is different and mounts further to the right (as shown). I have attached a photo of the correct 1956 tissue dispenser that is installed in my Nomad. If you want the dispenser to be mounted under the glove compartment, buy the 1955 version. The tissue replacement box is readily available.
I have attached the instructions for the 55 and 56 Tissue Dispenser Installation.
Pops, The 1956 instructions that you posted are incorrect. The 1956 manual is in error and shows the 1955 instructions. In 1956 the tissue dispenser is mounted 1/4 inch to the right of the glove box door and has a different mounting bracket from the 1955. If you look at the e-bay link on my previous post you will see the correct 1956 instructions. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-CHEVRO...6f5c%7Ciid%3A1
