Angry steering issue

had a modified 605 box on 55 car, had a problem where the steering acted like it would lock but if you turned the steering wheel backwards then the steering was fine - long story short, after 2 old style steering columns and a new ididit column and new 500 series box, the steering is very touchy and there seems to be a flat spot in the middle of going straight where the steering wheel has no contact with from wheels - what am I doing wrong - all of the components under the car are tight and no slop or movement of tie rods, ball joints. Is very frustrating - using all original steering parts only with power steering and drove it for 15 yrs with now problem at all, then changed motors and this issue popped up

Please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With aftermarket power steering, you have to have more caster than you can get on a tri-5 with stock control arms, to keep it from being touchy. Upper control arms are available with up to 5 degrees added caster.
The flat spot sounds like the pitman arm ball is not adjusted correctly in the center link. Fig. 5: http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com...55csm0903.html

Did you have the front end aligned? If not get it aligned and set with .25 - .5 degrees negative camber and as much caster as they can get, hopefully a couple of degrees.

Yep, alignment.

If your steering is still Touchy, go to Turn One Racing, get their phone number and give them a call.

They manufacture pressure / Flow Valves that will provide lower PSI and Flow. Cost is about $45...

I was able to disconnected the high pressure hose back out the valve and replace it without removing the pump.

Shimming the Spring in the ps pump doesn't work properly,,, been there..
