I try and work on my project about one hour a day. Sometimes I have to skip or stack an hour or two.

This project is quite different from a lot I have done. It is not a pure restoration. I'm going to paint all the engine compartment sheet metal body color. So in keeping with that theme.....I got a few small parts done.

I had difficulty with these finger nail cups moving around when attempting to paint them years ago, until I screwed them down with an under size screw through one of the mounting holes. Problem solved.

I have done some preliminary test fitting of the rear inner tail lamp to lift gate panel I got from a wrecked wagon. This panel is screwed onto the body and the reproduction tail pan skin. Any adjustment can be done by removing screws installing them to hold where it will be welded. The full Nomad skin is just clamped in place to get the rear measurement along the belt line from the top of the tail lamp to the edge of the quarter at the back edge of the door. Because both sides are getting new Nomad skins I need to make sure these are BOTH the same.

Thanks Mickey! I wonder sometimes if I am just doing this thread for myself.....

Yesterday my wife kicked me out of the house as she took down the seasonal decorations. SO I WORKED on my project frame.

I had previously purchased some 56 one piece frame parts to swap out with my 55 ones. I wanted the wider rear spring mounts. I tacked these in place. I also had some rust issues on the front mounts. They tend to be dirt collectors and then the rust starts. I have had this problem before, so I just removed the mounts and replaced them with better quality ones. I will drill a 3/8 inch hole in each of these so that water can drain out of them in the future, something I think the factory should have done.

I initially just put some tack welds on the corners. I installed my NOS rear shackles and bushing. Using a nice original rear leaf spring to make sure that they were located where needed. When this was done to both sides, I welded them solid.

For now this is all that I will be doing to these. There are some other items to done to the frame, and once all the changes are done it will get sandblasted and epoxy coated.

This morning I removed my Sedan Delivery lift gate to do the install of Madmooks new stainless trim kit.

The first step was to place the cover plate over the latch hole. Line up the holes the factory placed there, and then using the stainless screws Michael provided with the kit, screw it in place.

Next step is to take the longest section of outside trim and place it over the top of the cover plate. In this photo you can see the hole is already there. Center the trim over this hole and install a screw LOOSELY. The outside ends will need to be able to pivot on this screw.

Now take the two outside pieces along with the lower piece and lay them on the lower part of the gate. Make sure to adjust all 4 of the pieces of trim for the very best centering you can get. After I did this I installed some masking tape to hold them in place. Inspect this and make sure this is where you want it.

At this step, with the trim held in place with the tape. Mark each hole with a sharp pencil. This spot will be drilled out for the screws.

Remove all the trim and drill each spot you marked with a 1/8 inch bit.

Re-install the trim and install the screws loosely. Without any support under the trim you can damage it by installing the screw all the way. It will tend to push the trim down towards the center.

This is all that needs to be done at this time.

I re-installed the lift gate to my project to see how it looks. The photo is not the best quality. But it is still nice to see how it will look when all the paint work is done and carpet or material is inside the trim.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my build

Looks good. Thanks for taking the time to post.

"I wanted the wider rear spring mounts."

If I may ask...what does a wider rear upper mount do?
Performance? Increased sway resistance?

Just wanted to because I have seen the shorter bushings ware out. GM went to the wider support in 56 for that reason.

Not much to post as far as working goes on the project.

I located an NOS LH front fender to bumper brace. This now makes a complete set of front bumper brace/brackets I have.

Lastly With the help of Bruce TheHotRodHandyman I was able to purchase a 6 piece set of the stainless tail gate bars used on 58 Nomads. They showed up at a time I really did not have the $$$ but I had a eBay gift card that paid for over half of the purchase price. So I pulled the trigger and now I have them. They have all the clips as well, so I need to decide if I want to install them.

The short middle one was not a part of the group, it was MIA to the person that sold them.
