Default Header options for 500 box

I know this topic has been covered several times but, I ran into some issues today mocking up the fit of Doug's headers and 500 box that arrived yesterday.

I'm using Earl Williams side engine mounts in the stock position with the trans horns removed. I tried fitting both parts today and the #3 tube hits the corner of the 500 box . I like how they fit the chassis and do not hang under the frame.

The way I see it, here are my options:

1- Dimple the Doug's to clear the box. (Pro/cons)

2- Grind 1/2 " off the the bottom of tab on the box that's hitting. (Pros/cons)

3- Return the Doug's and try Headman elites 68128 but, I think they hang a little low? Can someone confirm?

4- Return the Doug's and cough up another $300 _400 for earl williams or stainless works.

Any other options or ideas I'm overlooking?

You would get some better help with your choices if you would post some photos of where you are now.

Agreed Rick. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a photo when I had the header on today. It's basically, the same issue you hear others complain about with the Doug's sometimes hitting the corner of the 500 box on tube #3.

It seems some have good luck w Doug's/500 combo and others like myself that need to make mods.

I'm trying to decide if I want to "dimple" a new set of $650 headers, grind on my new 500 box or move to another header without spending $1000 + for Williams or SW. I think the 68128 Headmans would clear the box but, wondering how far they hang below the frame?

I may try putting it back on tomorrow for some picks. Hate to put any scratches in the event I try to return them.

I am not familiar with the D356 headers. How are they different on the #3 tube from the D353 which will clear (and actually is very similar to the Williams header)?

Oh. That probably means you have an issue and that EW headers may or may not help depending on what the issue is.

I forgot to ask about any experience you might have with the headman 68128's? How do they fit regarding clearance below the frame?
