Default ** New Shocks

Looking for information as to what is the best shock for a stock 57 4Dr Ht with a 235 automatic. The shocks on the car are from at least 1986 which was the last time it was on the road. Thanks.

On that car I would agree with Carl and probably just go with Monroes. I think they are still lifetime guaranteed. Gabriel is a good shock too.

Spend a little more and get KYB shocks. They have better damping IMHO. Rockauto is a good place to get them.

Already had some new (used) Monroe, Sensatrac's in the rear in the rear...So, I went looking for some fronts to match....Found that the Sensatrac's have been replaced by something called the OESpectrum.

They look very comparable to the KYB's:

Features

-All Weather Fluid: Contains special modifiers to reduce friction and ensure smooth rod reaction.

-Full Displaced Valving: Tuned specifically for each application, this valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide consistency and ride.

-Fluon Banded Piston: The fluon band provides consistent sealing between the piston and pressure tube which delivers better control and increased durability.

-1-3/16 inch Bore: Larger bore than most shocks to provide more efficient and consistent control.

-Twin Technology: Impact Control Valve (ICV), delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and patented Low Speed Tunability

-(LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.

-Nitrogen Gas Charged: For improved ride and handling, helps maintain tire to road contact by reducing aeration - on most applications

-1/2 inch Diameter Piston Rod: Nitrocarburized rod for long service life. On non-dust shield units only.

-Special Seal: 'Self-lubricating' fluid seal designed to retain gas without excessive wear or friction.

Thumbs up

Great information. I've also been considering replacing my shocks. They've been on the car for at least 20 years, if not more now.
