Got word back the block is good! They will have to bore it out to either .030 or .040. He has a crank, rods, 62cc heads, and oil pump for it. I just have to get the caps to him to set up. I should know next week if the caps will work fine.

Now to start selecting a piston / cam / intake combo. Suggestions? I'm looking for 300-350 HP.

I sure hope you don't sink any money in that block until you find out the main caps you have will work. My machinist have always said you must at least have original #5 or a block is scrap.

I won’t, but these guys have done a couple of 327’s with missing caps. They’ve either found a good set or used a set from scrap 283’s. All I will pay for at this point is for is a hot tanking and magnafluxing

Just curious how did cap switching work out.

Step up your game, toss the 327 (4 inch bore, 5.7 rod, poor forged crank, short stroke engine with decent 2.02/1.60 valve heads). Get a 400SBC destroke to 377 (4.125 bore, run 6.0 rods, get a internally balanced cast steel or good forged crank, run vortec or better heads ). Still enjoying a 'rev happy' 'large bore' relatively short stroke traditional looking sbc that makes substantial HP and torque (that which best moves street cars, king torque) that revs like your nostalgic 327's but keeps up with or passes the kids running LS stuff. Personally I really like putting away late-model Mustangs Mopars and Camaros and GTO's. Yes the Hellcat Charger embarrassed my 406 equipped '57 210, but 707 is still bigger than 523, maybe I'll add some spray or just be more observant of fender badges in the future. Somebody's always got a bigger stick.

He should start working on the block next week. They've been swamped with motors ahead of mine and running a bit short staffed. I should know more about the caps then. I know of a couple of motors that are ahead of mine including a 40 Buick straight 8 that is going in a buddy's Series 70 40 Buick.

I might build something like that for a different car, this one is my highway cruiser built for 100% reliability. I only want around 300-350 HP at most.

Talked to Roy today and he said the caps will work! They are going to line bore it next week and finish everything up after that. I can't wait to have another 327!

Motor is finally almost finished! It only needed a .030 overbore, line honed, caps worked fine, and will be running about 8.9:1 compression. Z28 cam, stock style heads, I'm thinking it will end up around 280-300HP.
