You should be able to make your engine run without a MAF sensor, but you may have to do something in the tune.

As far as the tune file looking different, look at the "edit" column in the main view. At the bottom there is a box called "view". You'll see more boxes/tables if the "advanced" option is checked. Hopefully that's it.

As I said, I'm no tuner. I'm just trying to be like a sponge to learn little things as I complete my build and fire it for the first time. I have a gen4 engine which is a bit different from the gen3 you have, so most of my learning and demo stuff has concentrated on that.

Along with 55moredoor's suggestion of the HPTuners forum, there is a pretty good forum on tuning at ls1tech.com, look at the subforum on "computer diagnostics and tuning".

I'm sure that several here including me are interested in what you discover to fix your problems.
yes i found the advance setting...
its kinda funny , i must have figured that one out a while back when i was messing around with my tahoe.. then forgot..
so now they all show up advanced on my laptop...

maf..yeah, i think its something in the tune as well....
every little change seems to create a domino effect..

i try to absorb as much as possible also,
just dont seem to retain as well as i use to any more...

i cant leave things alone untill i'll figure it out...
could take awhile, but i'll get there.....

If you are new to HPTuners, (as I am) take a look at this channel. This guy walks you through everything from start to finish, no fluff, no drama, no useless crap that a lot of the youtube stuff gives you.

9 part series that he is updating as he goes, walks you through the tables and how they relate.

I do not know this guy, just came across his channel while looking for tuning videos.

Default update

problem solved.i think..yeeeh
i assumed it was a stock tune file,
turns out the ecm had been monkeyed around with a bit before i received it..
so the first hint , as Rick Noticed.. was the 2000 rpm in abuse mode
i bumped that up 6600 rpm.. that solved the cut off issue... but maf issue still there...
surging some at idle and just not responding as it should also not sounding right
still having that slight back ground sound of a diesel at idle......
so this week i downloaded some stock tunes from hp tuners users repository
and started to do some compering and could not find much that stood out much
a few minor differences , then i compared firing order...BINGO....
compared firing order on a few more files and they all matched
and mine was different, equivalent to if all spark plug wires had been moved over one post on a distributor cap ...

heres mine...

and here is what it's suppose to look like...

changed firing order...
now everything is working as expected and motor sounds good..
except running rich LT most part 0's/ST fuel trim -8 to -15
my injectors are the bosch # 0 280 155 931
looked at a couple sources and came up with this ??

#1
Which translates to about:
25lb/hr @ 3Bar
29lb/hr @ 4Bar

#2
258cc @ 3bar
24 lb @ 3bar (43.5 psi)
27 lb @ 4bar (58 psi)
http://www.witchhunter.com/flowdatapix/b0280155931.jpg

my injectors

all the 99 camaro and firebird stock tunes seem to use this flow rate table

my fuel pressure is more like 61-64 psi
so found this tune file for a 98 corvette manual transmission

i pretty much copied all tables from this file into mine..
fuel can use a little more adjustment
everything appears good and i think i will stay with this for time being....
LT's and ST's slightly in negative but should be okay until i can get it to a real tuner...

here's my last log and tune.. if you guy's want to look at them
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ci83wq4a06...20002.hpl?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/w1scc2we06...e%205.hpt?dl=0
i also disconnected maf halfway thru and it didn't skip a beat...
now i hope old tune didn't cause any damage .. time will tell...

Good work! Glad to hear a success story.

Your LT and ST fuel trims may clean up with more driving. But if they don't, you now have a clean start instead of a muddied up one.
