Correct, it drives my "home made" "matching" tachometer (modified and recalibrated from a 51-52 Chevy speedometer).

After 30+yrs in a plastic bag with a packet of desiccant in the bag, the old 2x4 setup works like new (VERY minor tuning is needed). I bolted them onto the 389, connected everything together, put gas to it and fired it up. UNBELIEVABLE!

Well, about 1hr ago, I lit a fire in the rebuilt (new pistons/rings) 389.
I just have to get it tuned, dialed in and get the timing adjusted. But so war, it seems pretty darn close!

I just have these small air cleaners on temporarily to make access for tuning easier. Once it is dialed in, the Batwing will go on permanently.

As soon as it's dialed in, it will return to regular daily driver duty.
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, I know, it is an ugly, rusty POS--------------and that is how it will remain--------------but mechanically, it will always be ready to rock and roll.

Thanks for sharing the video, sounds good and looks cool! Are those the 245 or 270 carbs?

Regards,
Kevin

Very slightly modified 245 carbs. Many years ago, Bob Kunz sent me some different jets for the secondaries and different springs for the power pistons.

Finally, after 7yrs, I got insurance and the tag updated today.
It's now ready for regular road service. This was my very first car in 1962 and was (literally) my daily driver until I parked it 7yrs ago with a busted piston.
The hood is now back on, 7yrs of dust was cleaned off of the windows and it got a tank full of premium, NON-ethanol gas. I took it out and appropriately flogged it. The 389 ran like a scalded dog and never missed a beat. The 2x4 carbs worked like brand new, the Muncie shifted like it should, all gauges worked, the air cond blew cold and it just ran down the road straight and true. Although, I spend yesterday TOTALLY installing new rear brakes. Yes, they are stock 51 drum brakes (SAME exact brakes that are on a trifive), and they work great (when properly rebuilt and adjusted). EVERYTHING worked, sorta. I had to jiggle the elec harness connectors at the firewall and radiator support (I used 1957 harness connectors about 45-50yrs ago to replace the screw connector/terminals) to get the headlights on (probably some corrosion on the terminals). This car is literally a real hybrid: 51-52-54-55-57-70-------------and a Corvette steering wheel.
I realize that this car is the ugliest POS on the street, but it's finally back to being my (literally) daily driver. Along with the other cars, we have a late model Impala SS, late model Tahoe and they have all the whistles and bells. BUT I HATE all the computer control crap and about all I can do to those is change the oil/filter and replace brake pads and turn the rotors.
Give me something I can bust knuckles on and get my hands greasy!
I love driving an old POS that runs and can be worked on. Also, when I tell it to jump, it just says "how high".
I just hope none of you treat a trifive like this. Shame on you if you do.

Oh ya, I'm considering putting a personalize tag on it.
I have 3 in mind:
PAID FOR
RUST ONE
LAZARUS

Your car is awesome. I love the homemade tach. I didn't know you could do that.

I think you should have left the air cleaner outside for the last year so the patina matches.........

How about LTSRACE........

Tom,

Thanks for your post. Really enjoyed reading what you’ve done to your daily driver. Wished I had half your knowledge and skills. How about “Sleeper” for a tag? Keep us posted on your choice.
