This is what I run, this stuff is the best and highly recommended by ISKY. It has tons of zinc in it. No need to run an additive with this oil.

No mention of ppm and anyone remember what Marshall Luckys catch phrase was from the Kurt Russell movie Used Cars.

Switch to a roller cam, and you won't have to worry about the zinc content in the oil. Plus, you'll make a bunch more power.

Jeff Smith (the guy who wrote the article) is a respected expert in all things high-performance. I think he makes a great point about adding anything to oil .. I've always figured there are guys in white shop coats that know a bunch more than me formulating oil. I'm certainly not qualified to mess with that science.

This said, the simple solution is to buy oil that has enough zinc from the git-go like Valvoline VR1, which is readily available at most parts stores.

These “who’s oil is best” discussions are always interesting because here is my reality:

High school and college, went through around 20 or so cars using the cheapest oil the parts store had on sale, many times waiting way too long to change it. Never got into discussions about who has best oil.

Fast forward to now, good job, family, 3 cars. Drive the Tri-Five Chevy roughly 1000 miles a year, changing the oil twice during that time, research oils like life depended on it. LOL.

Even though I run a full roller valve train in my BB, I like the thought of the added protection a high zinc oil offers with regards to the rod & main bearings. I am trying LUCAS Hot Rod oil this summer. Update in the fall.

Whose oil does Lucas re-brand or use as its base before adding additives? Does it meet any standards like API, GM, etc.? Actually the same should be asked of all the brands touted here.
