Since you're running now you won't need my input, but I'll give it anyway.

When I put an HEI in my car it ran great...for about an hour. Had to have it towed. After much fussing it was found that the module was bad.

Replaced the module and it ran great...for about a week. had to have it towed. After more fussing it was found the (round) coil was bad.

Replaced the coil and it ran great for about a day. Had it towed again. Found the coil was week. Replaced it with a Ford square coil and I've been a happy camper ever since.

Just curious, who's HEI system was it? The ones I use just plain don't break.

Langdon's. But to fair, the module and the square coil were provided as free replacements. (I had originally bought the round coil with the kit to preserve the original look, even though the square one was recommended) Tom was very accommodating.

DavidY, I have only seen one Langdon's, and it had a round coil on it, oil filled. Was your system using an actual HEI module?

From both my ignition person, and from my own hands on experiences taught to me by him, I have found that usually, HEI module failures are not random, nor "for no reason". They are usually caused by some other factor, alternator regulator sticking at 18 volts (YES, RARE, I have seen that), and almost exclusively, from epoxy filled coils overheating and shorting internally, and overloading modules to failure.

That came about after experiencing a few large HEI's failing module after module, "for no reason", and being educated by the ignition doctor that it IS the coil failing, and taking modules out as they fail. Frankly, in the beginning, I thought this was BS, but, through a lot of questions, tests, and common sense from my ignition doctor, he literally forced me prove it to myself. He has not been wrong along the way, and usually gets derided and hated for telling it just like it is, without BS.

He doesn't just help you fix a problem, he forces you to educate yourself about it, why it happens, and how to fix it, the right way, along the way
