From what I understand it works on pressure inside tube, So if that is correct it would only register the variance in the pressure of fuel to register on needle & it would not matter that it was not completely to the top. But I have been wrong before, That is why I posted on Ricks so possibly we could get the correct answer ?? I understand the reasoning for setting everything below top of tank for clearance issue's. but as deep as pump & sender sit once you fill tank it wont break full until fuel gets to the float & starts to lower it. They said that bending float arm was a definite no no !! If the tube type works on same principal as float then it seems kind of foolish to spend the $130.00 for the tube type. They are touting the tube type as the best thing since mothers milk & the float style are antiquated now but seems they have worked just fine for a whole lot of years they have been around !!

After installing a 25 gal. tank I was looking for accurate 0 - 30 ohm sending unit for my stock gauge - Classic Instruments has these in lengths of 6" to 24" - mine seems to work well (been in a little over a year) and readings are accurate enough for me.

No, my tank sender location is not recessed as shown in your picture - here is the link to the sender I have (11" tube as I remember). Mine does read normal coming down from full but it is a flush mount on top of the tank. We actually had to cut an access hole in the trunk floor to make life easier for removal or trouble-shooting the sender. You could call Classic Industries and get their feedback. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I am starting to think that with the lowered sender the tube style is going to register the same as float style, And if yours is working correctly being mounted on top you just answered the question. Looks like I will have a full tank until fuel level gets to float & starts to drop it !!
